Construction Update

Sept. 13, 2014

Environmental Center Complex
We had expected to receive the temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) for the barn buildings this week, but this will not occur until the necessary paths to the buildings are complete. The work on the gravel paths are underway and are expected to be complete by 9/26, at which point we expect to receive our TCO. Work continues on the hawk display cages. The steel framing on the new farm house building will begin on Monday. The contractors will need to use the road leading up to the Administration building as their main entrance to the site. The building is still expected to be complete by November.

Alumni Hall
The foundation work for the building has begun and will continue through the week. The foundation work is scheduled for the next four weeks. On Saturday 9/13, you should expect to see an increase of concrete trucks on campus as they continue to pour the foundations for Alumni Hall. Production on the modular units is underway. You can expect to see the modular boxes on campus in November.

Kessel Student Center
The expansion of the Kessel Student Center is underway and is on schedule to be completed in January. Framing of the walls in the new dishwashing room will being this week and continue into next week. The loading dock roof is framed out and the concrete pour is scheduled for this week.

Site Work
The expansion of the Choate lot is underway. The fill and shape of the parking area will begin on Monday. Also as a reminder, the small parking lot between Lienhard Hall and the Football field will be closed for the pre-construction phase for the future home of the new Athletic Field House.

Choate Pond
The reshaping of the pond has been completed and the stabilization of the pond shelves has begun. A partial road closure will be needed at Miller circle to complete the final steps in the pond restoration. This work has been tentatively scheduled for September 25th through the 27th. The contractors will maintain one active lane of traffic in this area at all times and a flag persons will be positioned as needed to ensure safe passage at all times. As a reminder, the pond is fed by mostly subsurface streams and will refill naturally after several rain events.

We anticipate filing our building permits next week and hope to begin work on October 1. The new field house foundation work will begin in October. All of the new athletic facilities are on schedule for completion for the fall 2015 semester.

All work is weather dependent, we will promptly notify the community of any changes.
